Frozen Orchid Ice Ball Party Play & Decoration

We have had a fantastic afternoon yesterday exploring…

What a lovely party decoration idea that invites to play?!  Or why not have them ready at the beginning of a kids party for the little ones to engage with while waiting for everyonge to arrive?!

Of course playing with ice is an absolute favorite sensory activity in our house. In a climate at pretty much constantly above 30°C anything COLD is appreciated to cool down after playing and running outside.

We experimented with flowers… added glitter and little beads. There was so much to explore…

Why does the orchid seem to float and why are the beads at the bottom of the ice ball?

What do the ice balls look like with different background?

In the dark with a flashlight?

Or held against a bright lamp in daylight?

The kids had such fun creating patterns, taking pictures…

Another great idea is to have the little ones try and “get into” the ice balls freeing the flower other than waiting for it to melt…

Anna from the ImaginationTree has been our inspiration here and I urge you to head over and explore her cute Frozen Dinosaur Eggs and her fantastic ideas.

MAKE YOUR OWN! ^_^

You will need balloons, water and then the items you would like to add to the water. We used orchids. They aren’t pricy here but I know this is not the case in other places. How about some lovely local flowers? We further added some glitter and beads.

The trickest part really is to insert the flower inside the balloon. Here I let the little ones gently put the flower in.

The funniest part of this craft is to fill the balloon with water. Why??? Well… lets just say I lost grab of the balloons a couple of times and we got a teeny tiny bit splashed…

Then put a knot and close up the balloon.

Put the balloons in to your freezer and leave them there for about a day?! When completely frozen it is really quite easy to cute of the knot and peal of the balloon “skin”.

And then HAPPY PLAYING and enjoy your PARTY! ^_^
