Kaleidocycles | Emotional Winter & Christmas – a fun SEL resource for kids
So excited to see more Social Emotional Learning (SEL) resources available. I have a very emotional little one at home and these fun little crafts – like these Kaleidocycles Emotional Winter & Christmas here – have helped us a lot to explore our feelings – even just to get into a conversation about emotions.
I have teamed up with my friend & colleague Maggy from Red Ted Art to bring to you this super cute Kaleidocycle Emotional Winter & Christmas Bundle.
You have not heard of Kaleidocycles before? Then read more here! There are lots more available to make and play with. It is a paper toy you can twist endlessly from one illustration to the next. Now lets show you how to make your own!
HOW TO:
Kaleidocycles are pretty easy to make once you get the hang of it. Let me show you…
For your Kaleidocycle Paper Toy you will need:
- the templates (find the download link further below)
- paper (120gsm is great)
- scoring tool & safety mat (not necessary but makes things easier)
- scissors
- glue
- coloring pens
When you have chosen between Santa, Snowman, Star or Snowflake enjoy some mindfulness time coloring. Then you cut out the template and fold along ALL (straight and all diagonal!) lines. I prefer scoring the lines before folding as it gives really straight folds and the folding is sooo much easier.
When you have folded all the lines your (not yet) paper toy will look a bit like this…
Add glue to the indicated parts on the printable and connect the paper toy into the shape of a tube or snake. Let it dry!
The final step is to connect both ends of the “snake” by gluing them together. You might want to add tape as well. You will bend and twist it. We experience it all the time that the Kaleidocycle then opens up again.

And there you are! You have made your own Emotional Kaleidocycle! See the emotional snowman above and the star below? Cute right?! My fave is the scared little star. ^_^
